A SHORT HISTORY
Our Post in Los Alamitos was chartered by the American Legion on September 26, 1948, with 43 members. The Marin-Davis Memorial Building (current location) was dedicated November 1962 in special tribute to Sgt. Delphino Marin-Casado, U.S.M.C.; and Lonnie T. Davis, U.S. Army. The original 1948 charter of our Post is framed and hangs on the wall in our Legion clubhouse, it lists the names of our charter members.
Our post is over 300 members strong and growing and is an integral part of the greater Los Alamitos community and a proud advocate for veterans on the local, state, and national level.
PFC LONNIE T. DAVIS
PFC Lonnie T. Davis was born on December 10th, 1924 and was a resident of Los Alamitos (440 Walnut Street). He enlisted in the Army on April 14th, 1943 and served in the 182nd Infantry, Company F. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star in World War II for operations on Hill 260 at Bougainville, Solomon Islands, where he was a member of a mortar squad and while under continuous and direct enemy mortar and machinegun fire that caused many casualties his team held an exposed positions for three days which was vital to the success of the operation. PFC Davis was Killed In Action (KIA) on March 14, 1944.
SGT DELPHINO MARIN-CASADO
SGT. Delphino Marin-Casado, U.S.M.C. was born on December 24, 1923 in El Rey Arizona. He was also a resident of Los Alamitos (433 Walnut Street) and Seal Beach (325 Pine Street). He was Killed In Action (KIA) on January 3, 1944 while serving with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, Fleet Marine Force, New Britain. He is buried in Los Angeles, CA.
